It is believed that it takes just three seconds to make a first impression. If that's true, then the reception area may be the most important room in any dental office. At the Centre Dentaire et d'Implantologie in Cap-Rouge, a suburb of Quebec City, it's spectacular with its glamorous and surprisingly bold use of lighting, color, and artistic elements. Each design selection emphasizes the vision of Drs. Simon Gauthier and Marie-Eve Lamoureux–to provide only the highest quality care to their patients.

Designed with a nod to art deco, the reception area's most show-stopping feature is a wall of LED-illuminated panels that are flooded with purple light and tie into a deep plum accent wall that serves as an anchor to the space. Both artistic and functional, the panels also screen the waiting area from the check-in desk, which is professionally finished in a polished black lacquer. Eye-catching, clear and purple acrylic chairs line the walls, giving patients unique seating to enjoy the large LCD TV monitor.

In the previous office, the waiting area was very small anddidn't allow for a comfortable or efficient workflow. That, along with a shortage of operatories, was the impetus for building the new office.

"We wanted more operatories to increase the number of hours we were available to provide hygiene and curative care," explain Drs. Gauthier and Lamoureux. "We were hard pressed to answer to the needs of our clients. Plus, our entire team was experiencing a poor quality of life at work due to the limited space."

The doctors went through a process in which they assessed what they wanted to accomplish in the new office, and then sought a building that would allow them to meet those needs. From the beginning, Field Sales Consultant Pierre Duchesneau of Henry Schein Canada collaborated with the doctors and actually brought the new location to their attention. It was attractive because of its high visibility on a street that sees a considerable amount of traffic pass by each day and its proximity to a residential area of young, growing families. Because it originally housed a restaurant, it required a complete renovation and modification to transform it into the practice they envisioned. The doctors purchased the building and then worked with Henry Schein Canada on the plans and equipment selections.

"We have received good customer service from Pierre for more than 10 years," explain the doctors. "A visit to their Québec showroom allowed us to try many different pieces of equipment. We chose Pelton & Crane for its quality price, great warranty, and excellent reputation. He also spent several days with us visiting a few clinics in his territory to explore other design options."

Today, the Centre Dentaire et d'Implantologie houses five operatories, with the ability to expand to seven, giving the two dentists, four hygienists, and four assistants plenty of room to move.

In marked contrast to the ultramodern, minimalistic lines of the waiting room, the operatories are plush, with shades of rich chocolate and beige on the walls and on the tile flooring. Patients are treated to a spa experience in stylish and comfortable dental suites.

Although aesthetically beautiful, this office is not just a pretty face. Its array of technology is very impressive, and has allowed the office to augment its services so patients can continue to see the doctors they know and trust for more expanded care.

The practice has stepped into the digital age of radiography by incorporating the ScanX Classic, which seamlessly integrates with their existing X-ray equipment. Routine X-rays can now be done while eliminating the high cost of chemicals and film, providing a faster, higher-quality image. Intraoral cameras have also been added to each operatory so the doctors and staff can capture video images and share them with patients. Both of these tools are irreplaceable for patient education and explaining treatment options.

"This brand new clinic with state-of-the-art equipment and technology allows us to better serve our clients. They have great confidence in us and appreciate that we have invested in their comfort and quality of care," explain the doctors. "Since the completion of our practice, we have experienced such considerable growth; we've had to hire more people!"
